To be honest with you, the first days of 2017 have been quite tough on me. I tried really hard to remain positive, to refocus myself, to set new goals…
But it was hard for to focus on the positive things in my life. It was like I couldn’t see them, even when they were right in front of me. I found myself suffering from panic attacks… in short, I wasn’t in a good headspace.
I needed to calm down, to breath, and to attempt to get my life back together.
One night, I randomly thought of the “365 days of gratitude” @jiliciousjourney has been doing on Instagram since the beginning of 2016. Without thinking twice, I grabbed a notebook a wrote “21 Days of Gratitude: Day 1/21”.
I had nothing to lose. People say it takes 21 days to start a habit, so I thought that maybe after those 21 days of recording what I was grateful for, I would have my positivity back. Every day I try to write down all the things I’m grateful for that happened in that day. And every day I try to find something different.
For example, on the first of my 21 days, I wrote that I was grateful for my friends for setting up a movie night for me and buying my favorite candies. On January 9th, I was grateful for the nice take-away Indian dinner that I had. On January 23rd, I was grateful for the nice tips my teacher gave me to succeed, and for the biscuits and the nice note my college left for me on my desk.
It’s really not that complicated, and after a few days, it’s easier to know what you are grateful for.
Today is my 19th of the 21 days, and I’m doing so much better than 19 days ago. This challenge I set for myself was one of the best ideas I’ve had, and I will continue doing this even after the 21 days are officially over.
That’s why I wanted to share this experience with you because I know that we all have times where we feel so bad that, even all the good in the world couldn’t bring us joy.
So if you want to feel better about your life, you can start your own 21 Days of Gratitude. I know, it sounds cliché to do this kind of journaling, but I swear it will help you, no matter if you are feeling down or if you’re on top of the world.
If you do this challenge, share your pictures and thoughts with us and the other readers with the hashtag #TVDgratitudechallenge. I would be genuinely so happy the see them.
