5 Tips For a Happier Life

happier life

This time of year can be stressful, as school or work starts to pick up for many of us. While it can be a tense time, it is also the right time to set new goals and new self-care habits. I thought I should share with you some of the little things I do to keep myself in a good mindset. Recently I moved to a new city in a small apartment I share with a friend, so I keep all of this in mind to make sure I feel good there.

Here are the five things I do to keep my mind clear and to lift my mood:

Put inspiring quotes everywhere. This is the most helpful thing to keep me in the right mindset. I have some on my bedroom’s wall so that when I wake up and go to bed I can read them and take in the positive vibes. I also have some in my diary, so I have them everywhere I go.

My favorite ones :

« Be the change you wish to see in the world. » – Gandhi

« Everything you want is on the other side of fear. » – Jack Canfield

« Do not overthink it. » – Koi Fresco

« Never give up on your dreams! That’s all we have to say. » – Micki Sobral

Take some « me time ». Even if you are super busy, make sure to take some time to do things that make you feel good. Read a book, eat your favorite food, make art, go for a run… do whatever you enjoy, even if it’s only for a few minutes.

Eat well. By that, I don’t mean eating super clean and healthy food all the time. Find your own balance between health and comfort. If you are craving a huge pizza after a long day, that’s fine! Eat that. Just make sure you don’t skip meals and that you have enough fruits and veggies. Having a good relationship with food is important for both your physical and mental health.

Spend quality time with your loved ones. Even if you don’t live near them and can’t see them physically, try to call them or text them once in a while. I personally keep in touch with friends through a snapchat group chat: there’s nothing better than starting your day with a cute snap video of your friends showing you they’re new room decor. The smallest efforts are the most important to keep in touch and to make you feel loved.

Make your space look like you want to feel. It’s easy to underestimate the importance of the impact of the environment on our mood and mindset. I know, cleaning is annoying… but really, coming home to a tidy room with clean bedsheets is the best feeling in the world! A decluttered room leads to a decluttered mind… Same for your decor! If you’re sick of your old posters, take them down and replace them with some pictures, go buy some new candles… You don’t have to spend a lot of money in the process. At the same time, don’t feel guilty about spending a few dollars on something that will lift your mood.

I hope those little tips will help you to stay happy and focused on your goals! Feel free to share your thoughts and pictures with us in the comments and on Instagram.
