It’s officially that time of year again. The time where the sun only shows it’s shining face in brief respites granting us temporary reprieve from our gray reality. We all begin to go a bit stir crazy peering out the window to be greeted by nothing but waspy branches and naked trees. However, in this time of the unforgivingly mundane exterior, we are allowed the chance to be introspective. Forced to search within ourselves to find happiness and substance. Now is the time for us to be insightful, to curl up with a good book and utterly lose ourselves within the pages. We are provided this dreary opportunity to grant ourselves permission to move slowly and with intention through our days.
This month, The Velvet Drifters invites you to join us as we embark on the journey of our first book club. Through this, I intend to spark conversation, create thought, and give us a chance to explore within ourselves in the company of others. Sharing a book with a friend, or in our case, a whole group of them is a lovely way to set about opening your mind to new points of view. We all could read the same sentence with each of us taking away a different meaning, and that is a beautiful sentiment.
This Month’s Book: SIDDHARTHA.
Description: In the novel, Siddhartha, a young man, leaves his family for a contemplative life, then, restless discards it for one of the flesh. He conceives a son, but bored and sickened by lust and greed, moves on again. Near despair, Siddhartha comes to a river where he hears a unique sound. This sound signals the true beginning of his life—the beginning of suffering, rejection, peace, and, finally, wisdom.
I myself have never read this book before, so we will all be reading it for the first time together. The book is broken down into two parts, and our meetings will move in accordance with them. Our meetings will be live-streamed through Facebook and Instagram live, giving you all a chance to interact and ask questions.
We hope that you will join us for reading and share your insights. You can RSVP for both events on Facebook or use the links above, don’t forget to share with friends.
Also, to avoid missing any last minute changes or updates, you can register for our text alerts. To sign up, simply text “@DRIFTERS” to “81010”.
